Monoprice 5x1 HDMI Switch
The Monoprice 5X1 Enhanced HDMI Switch is available from monoprice.com for about $135 (US). It is a very simple device. It has, as the name suggests, 5 HDMI inputs and one output. This type of product is great for TV owners with one DVI or HDMI input and multiple HDMI components. It comes with a remote control that lets you sequentially go through the inputs or use a discrete button to switch directly to the input you want. The device Supports 480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolution and is HDCP compliant.

In our tests we found that it just works. It was easy to incorporate into the Harmony remote. We set up our macros to switch all the components and then switch the HDMI input. It never misses. The only thing you have to consider is that there are two green LEDs that are always on. In a dark room it can be distracting. You can''t hide the device because it needs a line of site to the remote. If it really bothers you you can put some electrical tape over the LEDs. You are not going to find a better HDMI switcher for the price. Full disclosure. Monoprice was a past sponsor of our podcast. We were not paid to review this product.

Executive Summary
=================
This is an excellent HDMI switcher which provides tremendous value and excellent performance.
The 5x1 switcher passed testing at 720p/hdcp, 1080i/hdcp, 1080p/60/hdcp using 50ft 24AWG HDMI
cables without using any additional repeaters. In addition the 5x1 switch worked well as a
mixed HDMI/DVI switcher and had no problems with audio over HDMI.

Switching times were quite good, in the range of 1-2 seconds for non-HDCP devices and 3-5 seconds
for HDCP devices. HDCP switch times include time to renegotiate encryption and varies between
different devices.

Dimensions(WxDxH): 7.1x3x1
Power Usage: 2 Watts (full load, 5 ports active) (@ $0.21/kilowatt-hr $0.31/month)
Remote Control: discrete input select 1-5, input up/down (uses 2xAAA batteries)

WARNING: Please do not take the results of this review as a guarantee the switch will work with all
equipment and cables equally. Testing represents best effort to perform a range of tests on a diverse
set of equipment and cable lengths but is not broad enough to be considered exhaustive. During testing
it was found that some TMDS transmitters are more sensitive than others. In addition if different cables
from those tested are used, results can vary. It was also discovered some HDMI->DVI adapters can pass
1080p successfully while others can not. The same would apply to other types of adapters.

Initial impressions
-------------------
Unit was very compact for a 5x1 switcher. The width is just enough to comfortably fit 6 (5x1)
HDMI ports and about 1 high (includes rubber feet) Included AC adapter was the smallest wall wart
ever seen by this reviewer. Build quality was excellent overall. Unit felt very solid. Given
this was pre-production model, there were some slight cosmetic issues but these should be cleaned
up by production time.

Remote control was of good quality and included real vs membrane buttons. Functions include
discrete input 1-5 select and input up/down. Infrared functionality was easily integrated into
universal programming remote either through learning or device upgrades. For JP1 capable remotes,
I''ve provided a device upgrade file here (for other remotes, decoded IR/protocol provided in appendix):

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=2762

Switch has an autoscan feature which automatically selects an active input. In practice this
works nice when you are only using 2 devices. For 5 devices it may be simpler to have this feature
disabled (which is not currently an option)

Functional testing summary
--------------------------
Testing was done on this unit at 1080p/60 (148.5MHz) both with and without HDCP. Extensive testing
was also done at 720p/1080i with/without HDCP with a variety of equipment. Test display was the
Sharp LC-45GX6U 1920x1080 display. 1080p testing was done by connecting 5x1 switch directly to the
Sharp display panel DVI port. 720p/1080i testing was done through the HDMI port of the Sharp AVC
(external video processor)

Source devices tested include:
Panasonic S77 upconverting DVD player HDMI (720p/hdcp)
Samsung HD841 upconverting DVD player DVI (1080i/hdcp)
PNY Verto 6600GT PC grapics card DVI (1080i)
MyHD MDP-130 PC HDTV tuner card DVI (1080i)
Radio Shack Accurian ATSC HDTV tuner HDMI (1080i)
Motorola DCT-5100 HD cable set top box DVI (1080i)

PNY Verto 6600GT PC grapics card DVI (1080p/60)
Sharp AVC TU-GD10U-T DVI (1080p/60/hdcp)

Display device:
Sharp LC-45GX6U HDMI (720p/1080i)
Sharp LC-45GX6U DVI (1080p/60/hdcp 1080p/60)

Cables tested
[all Monoprice cables, in the interest of reducing the test matrix some tests were skipped as indicated]
[Monoprice HDMI->DVI adapters were used where appropriate]
28AWG HDMI Cables - 3ft, 6ft, 10ft, 15ft
24AWG HDMI Cables - 3ft, 6ft, 10ft, 15ft, 25ft, 33ft, 50ft
22AWG HDMI Cables - 50ft

Sparkles were not present for any of the test configurations.

1080p testing
-------------
In particular 1080p/60/hdcp (148.5MHz) was sent from Sharp AVC to Sharp display panel through the 5x1
switcher and 50ft 24AWG HDMI cable. This configuration was observed for 2+ hours with no sparkles while
viewing both black picture and using internal QAM tuner to view 1080i content converted to 1080p/hdcp by
Sharp AVC. Testing was repeated at 1080p/60 (no HDCP) using PNY Verto 6600GT viewing WMV-HD 1080p clips
for 15 minutes. No sparkles were observed.

Switch times were excellent in this configuration, often 1 second or less.

720p/1080i testing
------------------
Various devices were tested at 720p/1080i with and without HDCP. No sparkles were observed for any of
the configurations. See raw testing data for extended testing results.

Initial basic test scenario:
1) Panasonic S77 HDMI upconverting DVD player (uses HDMI/HDCP)
connected to input 1 of HDMI switcher using Panasonic suppied 6ft HDMI cable, configured for 720p
source content: The Incredibles
2) Samsung HD841 DVI upconverting DVD player (used DVI/HDCP)
connected to input 2 of HDMI switcher using Monoprice 28AWG 6ft DVI->HDMI cable, configured for 1080i
source content: Star Wars Ep3: Revenge of the Sith

HDMI out was connected to Sharp LC-45GX6U AVC (Sharp''s external video processing box) using
Radio Shack Gold Series 6ft HDMI->HDMI cable.

No picture degradation at all through the switcher. No sparkles, no strange lines, etc.
Testing was purposely done with one source at 720p and the other at 1080i to force renegotiations.

Switch time was pretty fast for HDMI switcher with HDCP sources. 3-5 seconds (including
HDMI/HDCP renegotiation time between source and display)

Tested turning off the Sharp TV while input 1 was selected and also while input 2 was selected.
Upon turning the TV back on, everything negotiated properly and a picture showed up within 4-5 seconds.

Tested turning off Panasonic S77 while playing, then turning back on, works ok. HDMI/HDCP
renegotiates and picture shows in up 4-5 seconds.

Tested turning off Samsung HD841 while playing, then turning back on, works ok. DVI/HDCP
renegotiates and picture shows in up 4-5 seconds.

Basically there were no sparkles and switch worked as expected.

Caveats:
--------
1) when testing Panasonic S77 DVD player, I found that the player performs a form of cable length
detection during the startup procedure. When used with 5x1 switch and HDMI output cable lengths
25ft and longer, the DVD player displays a U 70-2 error. According to the manual this error
is for HDMI cable too long. I tested a 50ft 24AWG cable directly from Panasonic S77 DVD player
to Sharp AVC HDMI port and this error did not occur. It appears using the 5x1 switch introduces
enough delay that the S77 DVD player thinks the cable is too long. This should not be an issue
if you intend to use output cable lengths up to 15ft, which did not exhibit this behavior. This
behavior could also be related to the Sharp AVC HDMI port, so you may not see this issue at all
if you use a different display.

2) when testing PNY Verto 6600GT PC graphics card and Sharp AVC HDMI port, there were no sparkles
or issues at any resolution. However for cable lengths 35ft-50ft the observed behavior was the
BIOS boot screen would display with no issues, but once the nVidia Windows drivers loaded, the
screen turned blank. Using a remote desktop, I determined this was occuring because the Windows
drivers failed to detect a digital display because the EDID information was not being returned
quick enough. It is not an issue with the DVI/HDMI video signal because I was able to trick the
graphics card by using a 25ft cable to boot into Windows desktop, then switch to 50ft cable. In
this scenario displaying WMV-HD 1080p videos had no sparkles and windows desktop had no artifacts
with the 50ft cable. Further, I was able to insert a Gefen DVI Detective to return EDID information
to the 6600GT card much quicker. With the DVI Detective in place, the 6600GT had no problems
booting into Windows desktop, even with 50ft 24AWG HDMI cable. Interestingly this issue might
also depend on the display. When testing 6600GT through 5x1 switch and 50ft cable direct to
Sharp display panel DVI (as opposed to going through AVC), the same issue did not occur.

3) this particular switcher has a feature that detects whether a signal is active by testing for
some signals on the HDMI input. The MyHD MDP-130 PC HDTV tuner passes this signal only if connected
to a DVI graphics card using the loopback cable. If the MDP-130 DVI port is used without the loopback
cable connected to the graphics card, the signal will not be present on the DVI cable and the switch
will think there is no active signal and thus will not allow the port to be selected. The workaround
is to use the DVI loopback cable. Ideally the feature of detecting signal could be disabled and that
might be a consideration for a future release.

4) when switching from a device which has negotiated YCbCr to nVidia 6600GT, colorspace might
not be reset properly to RGB. This is *not* an issue with the 5x1 switch, rather the hotplug
negotiation between nVidia 6600GT and the Sharp display. Workaround is to switch to different
video resolution and switch back to original. Alternate workarounds include switching to an RGB
device that is properly negotiating like Samsung HD841 prior to switching to PNY Verto 6600GT,
or going in the config menu to force Sharp display to use RGB, or to configure all devices on
the switch to use RGB. Potentially the workaround could be as simple as switching to unused
HDMI port before switching to nVidia 6600GT display, assuming the active signal detection can
be disabled.

Doesnt work for me
While the HDX-501 works well with some of my sources, it does not work cleanly with all of them. I wanted to switch between a Toshiba TDP-MT8 DLP projector with 720P native resolution and a Vista PC, a pair of DVD players, and a Samsung SIR-T451 HD over-the-air TV tuner.

I am using 3 foot HDMI cables from Monoprice with the switch.

The switch works fine with the computer as the source.

With my Samsung tuner, the video quality is excellent but there is intermittent flicker on the display that is not present when the projector is connected directly to the turner.

When the source is an OPPO DV-903H DVD player, the projector cannot maintain synch and the picture is completely lost, reacquired, lost, etc. The OPPO player works perfectly when connected directly to the projector.

So, as with Monoprice items generally, the price is great but the HDX-501 switch is essentially useless for my intended use.

Hdmi Switch
Works fine with my hd dvr cable box, works little to not as all with my Xbox 360. With this switch you will only get a picture every once in a while, also the picture will go black when ever it feels like it. The picture may come back on at any given time or it will stay black. Which ever it feels like it, Def not worth the Money!!!!

BRILLIANT!
Ordered this a little more than a year ago, and its performed exactly as desired ever since. It even had a preset for the remote in Logitech Harmony software!! My only caveat is that Im starting to run out of HDMI ports (and if/when I upgrade my XBox 360, I will) so Ill have to upgrade to the 8x1 model.

Mine is wedged on its side between my center and Tivo, and performs flawlessly. Only wish would be to be able to shut off the front lights, but the rest of my components look like a Christmas festival anyway..

As a newbie in HDMI, it work for but not as i think
I got this thing last month. Everything work good since then. The only complaint i have is when i change the resolution of my PC sometimes the screen remain blank but i dont know for sure whos to blame. Im new to HDMI stuff and i didnt know that there are a 3-5s delay between source switching. Its annoying a little bit.

Xbox360, PS3, Sony DVD changer DVP-CX995V and my PC via a DVI-HDMI cable. The output is plug to a Denon AVR-2308CI receiver. I use a Benq W500 projector to complete my set.

Great Price! Great Device!
Looked all over and read a hundred reviews and ended up taking a shot on this switch. I made the stupid assumption that the lower price meant lower quality or performance, but the reviews swayed me in the end.

I am glad they did. This is a quality device and the price is excellent to comparable switches I was looking at.

It works great. I have absolutely no problems with picture quality on a HD Cable box, PS3, Xbox 360, or my PC which are all connected through the switch. Best purchase I have made in awhile. Love Monoprice. They are my new favorite place to buy cables etc. Great cables for a fraction of what the box stores sell for.

I cant be happier with this switch and pity the folks who are paying upwards of $100 or more for similar devices.

Works like a Champ
Works like a champ! Exchanged the 4x1 switch (product id 4088) for this switch after I couldnt get the 4x1 switch to pass 1080p at all (or reliably pass 1080i for that matter). The exchange process was easy and the 5x1 switch handles everything! I highly recommend this switch!

A Great Switch
I purchased this switch after trying a different 4 port model that didnt play well with my setup. Im glad to report that this works beautifully. Currently, its running a TiVo HD on one port and a Panasonic upconverting DVD player (cant remember the model). The 4-port would totally mess up the DVD player, whereas this one doesnt seem to have any issues at all. Behind the switch is a 50-foot HDMI cable that runs though to wall to my TV (Panasonic 47-inch plasma).

Works Perfect
Just received it yesterday. Only took two days from CA to MI!
Hooked it up to my U-Verse box and my DVD player to my projector.
No quality issues. In fact, I believe its slightly better.
Lowest price on the web. Would buy it again.

Great Product
I bought this switch in an attempt to connect both my Comcast HD Cable Box and my PS3 to my Sony Bravia HDTV. Having tried a Terk HDMI Switch, which did not work I was a bit skeptical that the Monoprice Switch would do the job. However, I was wrong the switch did everything I wanted and gave me the opportunity to hook up an additional 4 HDMI devices. This is a great product at a great price!

Excellent HDMI Switcher!
We hooked this baby up today and it works like a charm. So far we have four devices plugged into it a DirecTV DVR, TIVO DVR, Samsung HD DVD player, and Playstation 3 with Blueray all plugged into it and everything works! It is so easy to switch between each device. When we first hooked everthing up and plugged the switch into our Denon Home Theater Receiver, there was video but no audio. Then we re-programmed our Denon Receiver and, Presto!, we got audio too. Now we are going to re-program our Logitech Harmony Universal Remote to work with our new system to make it even better and easier. This switcher is just what we needed! Thank you Monoprice!

Flawless
Ive had this switch for almost a year. Its worked flawlessly all the time an its on 24x7. Ive never experience any issues even thou some users say the ps3 would only work on port 5. So I hooled up my ps3 on port 5 since day 1 and never had a problem. Im using it hooked up to an Onkyo TX-SR605 which is at the same time hooked up to my tv and the performance is superb. No image degradation at all. If youre using a harmony remote like myself (Im using a 880) Youll practically forget its there since the remote does all the leg work when it comes down to switching inputs depending on your desired activity.

Its best if a power switch intergrated in unit and addressable by remote control,
My 1st unit died in a couple week due to being on 24/24. Got the replacement fairly fast from monoprice (good service, A). Never got feedback from monoprice for what went wrong with the bad unit. I think with power switch intergrated and addressable by remote control, this unit will be one of the low price best.

Excellent swith
The first hdmi switch (4X1 switch with built in equalizer, rev 2.5) I bought from monoprice was incompatible with my Mitsubishi HD1000U video projector/electronic components and 25ft hdmi cable. I returned the switch and replaced it with the 5X1 enhanced HDMI switch with builtin equalizer (REV.2.1). This switch works perfectly with my projector and all connected devices over a 25ft hdmi cable. The picture quality is excellent with no signs of degredation. I highly recommend this cable and the customer service at monprice.com is top-notch!

Was going to give a 6 but realized the Xbox 360 has a Black level setting in Console Settings Display.
The new IronMan game acts like the old 3DFX cards with dirty shadows, thought it was the switch, but it wasnt.

Used this to hook up a PS3, Xbox360, Direct-TV HR21 HD DVR, and a Sony DTS Digital Sound Studio Digital EX home theater... awesome product, equally awesome site )

FYI... some reviewers mention auto switching, dont think they have the same model since this does NOT auto switch only shows active inputs by a green light and you have to manually change the input to the active input by using the remote or the front panel... just FYI

from the very first power-on there were no issues and switching between any source gave a perfect picture within 1sec.

only issue i am having is teaching the discrete input commands to my universal remote but im sure i will get that ironed out.

I would recommend this product for anyone looking to expand their their home theater equipment with more HDMI than one or two HDMI inputs. Great inexpensive product.

Works as designed, experiencing no sync or picture quality issues whatsoever.

Plus, this switcher model is the default Monoprice device displayed when configuring it for use with the Logitech Harmony. It could literally not be any easier unless Logitech bought Monoprice out.

There is no reason for any competing product to exist for a single penny more. They might as all just quit the business.

Brief

Video and audio quality were excellent through all tested devices. Quality through the box was indistinguishable from a direct connection without the box. No video sparkles or audio clipping were noted. All devices were able to negotiate without problems.

For about $50 this box is an amazingly inexpensive way to add more HDMI ports to your audio/video system.

When I received the replacement I immediately installed it and it works perfectlly with all of my components. Thank you monoprice for standing behind your equipment and your friendly customer service department.

I currently the following equipment hooked up to the hdmi switch

Onkyo cd/dvd player
Toshiba HD DVD player
Comcast digital DVR receiver
PS3 (port 5)

Then through the HDMI out to a Panasonic Home Theater Projector PT-AE1000U using a 25 ft cable purchased from momoprice.

Evreything works flawlessly. Haven''t had a problem with anything. Thanks momprice.

After a great deal of research between the Monoprice line of HDMI switches and the Psyclone 4x2 HDMI 1.3a certified switch at Best Buy for $199, I decided to go with the Monoprice 5x1 HDMI 1.2a switch for 2 reasons. Firstly, the switch received a great review and got an 8.3 out of 10 rating on CNET.com in Nov 2007 (Google cnet review monoprice), stating that although the device is not certified for HDMI 1.3a, they had no problem passing Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master audio through it. Secondly, it costs just a fourth of what the Psyclone switch costs, and hundreds less than the top of the line switches, that I can''t afford.

I had read several bad product reviews on Monoprice''s website about the PS3 only working on port 5, and the LEDs being super bright, so I felt obligated to contribute my review to the contrary. I ordered the switch 3 days ago, after speaking at length with a knowledgeable technical rep at Monoprice, and it just arrived this morning, on Christmas Eve 2007.

I plugged my DirecTV HR-21 HDDVR into port 1, PS3 into port 2, and Xbox 360 elite into port 3. I then plugged the switch''s output into HDMI input 1 (of 2) of my ONKYO TX-SR605, which is capable of upscaling video to 1080p and processing Dolby TrueHD. Lastly, I plugged my receiver''s HDMI output into my Mitsubishi WD-73734 73 1080p rear projection TV (yeah, that''s right - it''s a monster -).

Upon plugging everything in (in under 5 minutes) and turning on each source, I was able to instantly switch between any of the three inputs flawlessly - with no degradation of picture quality. I tested with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Blu-ray through the PS3, and it looked just as good as if going straight through the receiver or directly to the TV. I realize that PS3''s cell broadband engine currently converts all audio to DTS 5.1 multichannel output, but a firmware update in the future could enable processing of Dolby TrueHD, so it was fairly important to me that I find an HDMI switch that could pass it.

Additionally, the LEDs are no longer super bright, as Monoprice has now placed a tinted plastic cover over the front panel. Any input whose source device is powered on will illuminate red, while the active input is green - and the switch is so small, I don''t even notice the lights while watching TV.

Bottom line - Monoprice has knowledgeable technical staff, and an unbelievably priced line of HDMI switches. The HDX-501 does exactly what it says it does, right out of the box, and it was super easy for my One for All 9910 universal remote to learn the input selecting commands from the switch''s remote.

ONKYO has recently made it possible to buy a full 1080p upscaling receiver for under $1000, and you will be hard pressed to find a similarly priced receiver with more than 2 HDMI inputs. I would recommend trying this switch to anyone in need of more HDMI ports, before spending $200-300 on one that does the exact same thing. Thanks, Monoprice!

Purchased the 5x1 HDMI Switch (rev2.1) along with two 6-ft HDMI (28AWG) and two 3-ft HDMI (28AWG).

Have connected
LG LDA-531 >> port 1
Toshiba HD-A1 >> port 4
Sony PS3 >> port 5
Output using MonsterCable HDMI to DVI >> Sony 60 LCD RearProj.

The results are excellent. Works great with the Logitech Harmony 890 ... codes for Monoprice found under Audio/Video Switchers.

I had tried a no-name ASiD 3x1 switch but had trouble with red sparklies. No problems whatsoever with the Monoprice 5x1 and cables.

So far only three days of use... will report back if any issues develop.

Shipping to Canada (International USPS) was only 5 business days.

After reading about compatibility issues with the 5x1 switch and the PS3 on Monoprice, I was a little hesitant to purchase this switch rev 2.1. However, to my surprise, the switch works perfectly with my PS3. I can plug it into any port it switches without problems. Currently I have a PS3 and Toshiba HD-A2 connected to the switch. The output feeds through a 50’ Monoprice HDMI cable to a Sanyo PLV-Z4 projector. Although the projector is only 720P, it accepts a 1080p input from the PS3 without any signal degradation. I’m very happy with my purchase!

Just a quick note to those considering the Oppo 981 for use with the Monoprice 5x1 HDMI switch:

Mine works perfectly to toggle HDMI on my Panasonic PT-60DL54 between:

1) Motorola DCT-6416 PVR
2) HTPC w/ BFG GeForce 7600GT via 25'' DVI -- HDMI cable
3) Oppo 981 DVD player

It takes a couple of seconds, but all in all, everything works exactly as intended. Just figured I''d pass that along...

Works perfectly with my PS3 and HTPC at 1080p. Even programmed my JP1 remote (an old Radio Shack 15-2117) to control it. The only possible complaint I could maybe have with it is if I needed two HDMI outputs to run to the TV and a receiver, but with my current system that''s not a problem.

Works flawlessly and is an excellent price.

Company G charges 4x as much and gives you one less input on a similar device.

I am using the switch with the following HDMI devices with a 30ft cable run between the switch and the projector:

Mitsubishi HD-1000
Sony DVP-CX995V
Sony PS3
Dish Network ViP211

This 5X1 Enhanced HDMI Switch is the last item that I needed to complete my Home Theater. It works flawlessly. I now have enough HDMI inputs for all of my devices (Sat, PS3, DVD, TiVo). It integrated perfectly with my Harmony 688 remote. Monoprice is the best. They ship fast and have the BEST prices. Keep up the great work. I’m a costumer for life!

I have this setup with a Comcast Motorola Cable Box and a PS3 to a Panasonic Plasma (only one HDMI Port). The switch changes flawlessly between the PS3 and the Motorola Box. I''ve read reports indicating that Comcast Cable Boxes may not allow HDMI switching, but this was not the case with this MonoPrice Switch. I also programmed my Logitech Harmony to work with this Switch.

After serching for sometime now, I came across this little switch. I read all the reviews that consummers posted in several web sites
and I''m pleased to have this switch in my home. I have a 2 year old Mitsubishi micro-display projection HDTV with only 1 HDMI input,a dish network HD receiver, a Toshiba upconvert dvd player, and
a Sony Playstation 3 all connected to this switch. There are no lag times when switching from one device to another. The system works
flawlessly with no signal loss.

Mine works fine. No dropouts or anything else undesirable.
Built quality is in the upper 20%
Exterior finish is the same as the grainy flat black that''s on most my other components.
Size and weight is small enough to tuck it away behind your component cabinet in a vertical orientation position screwed into the cabinet. This saves on shelf space.

I''d recommend ordering some shorter HDMI cables between your components and this switcher to help minimize the amount of wires behind your components.

This is an awesome piece of equipment. A MUST have for HDTV owners with 1 HDMI jack. I currently have my PS3 and motorola dvr hooked up and the switch peforms flawlessly. Easy to set up and the switch just feels really well made. Nice and heavy weight to it. Switch time is a bit slow(about 4 seconds) but still not enough for me not to give it 10 stars.

It works like a charm in my system:
Sanyo PLV-Z3 ---- 50ft Supra hdmi cable---- 5x1 monoprice switch.
Sources are:
- Pioneer 868 avi-s (same as 59elite) --- 3ft hdmi cable unbranded
- Humax HDCI 2000 --- 3ft hdmi cable unbranded
- Ati Radeon 1600pro AGP --- dvi/hdmi adapter ---50ft Atlona Hdmi cable

Yes, it works with 50ft + 50ft cable lenght :)

In addition the ac-adapter works well also
with european 220V, only a plug adapter was needed.

Only downside is that i had to buy it from a collegue because Monoprice doesn''t ship neither accept payment from Europe... grrrr :)

This HDMI switcher is a great deal. I was especially impressed with the quality construction and price. I am using it with an Infocus ScreenPlay 4805 projector, WinXP Media Center (Geforce 6200), and a Motorola DCT-6412 DVR (Comcast). I got this switcher because the Comcast DVR (and/or the projector) had problems with HDCP negotiation when switching inputs from HDMI to Component. So far, I haven''t had the problem again! Switching between devices is fast.

I got the Rev.2.0 switcher today and I thought I''d just share my observations. Here''s my equipment:

Fujitsu P40 50 plasma
Verizon FIOS HD set top box (Motorola manufactured)
SA 8300 HD cable box from Cablevision
Toshiba A1 HD DVD player
JVC D-Theater Deck (model 5U)

I really had no issues with the old switcher and appear to have no issues with the new one.
I''m not sure, but it seems like switch times to my cable box have been reduced, but other switch times seemed to have remained the same.
I find the status light colors of the new LEDs to be an improvement.

Other than that, a very nice product at a very reasonable price. I''ve still got a Gefen switcher which was a lot more but didin''t work as well.

Thank you for the opportunity to test this unit. Below are the details of
my test configuration, but the bottom line is that I found no operational
issues with the switch at all--everything just works. My only nits to
pick are that its red LEDs are brighter than necessary, so that they are a
distraction in the viewing room if they''re not hidden, and that
automatically switching from one input to another seems to require that the
inactive input be completely powered off. This last may be a limitation of
the interface rather than your unit, since I have no basis for comparison.

Test configuration:

HDMI Output: Samsung 244T LCD monitor DVI input (Digital Connection 10-foot
28AWG(?) HDMI-DVI cable)

HDMI Inputs:

1: MyHD DVI daughter card output up to 1920x1080i, also connected to EVGA
GeForce 6200 8x AGP card using 1920x1200p @60 Hz desktop (Monoprice 6-foot
28AWG DVI-HDMI cable)
2: TViX M5000U HD network player DVI output up to ATSC 1920x1080i
(Monoprice 3-ft 28AWG DVI-HDMI cable)
3: Zensonic Z500 HD network DVD player HDMI output at 1920x1200p @60 Hz
(Monoprice 1.5-ft 28AWG HDMI cable)

This switcher works exactly as advertised. I''m using it to switch between my cable box, HD-DVD player, and upconverting DVD player, since I only have 1 HDMI input on my 42 Sony. It was very easy to integrate the switcher into my system using a Harmony 520 remote control. Build quality is solid and better than I had anticipated. Excellent product at an excellent price. I am floored by monoprice.com''s quality, price and service!

I added this switch due to the fact my Sharp DT-300 only has a single DVI input and I have multiple DVI and HDMI sources.

Currently using with two input devices (OPPO 971 and a Comcast Motorola dual tuner DVR).

Pros:
HDMI switcher remote commands learned by Sony RMAV3100 so single button push changes both the hdmi video switch and audio on the amplifier.
Great value compared to the overpriced Gefen switchers.
HDCP in switch works between cable box and projector.
No problem driving signal over a 23-ft DVI-cable to the projector (ie no sparklies)
No problem using a Monoprice female-DVI-to-male-HDMI converter block with switcher.
5 inputs!!! Somewhat future proof. Think PS3 or XBox360

Cons:
HDCP handshake is a little on the slow side when initially changing between the DVD player(non HDCP) and cable box. Approx 5-7s.

Overall
The 5x1 HDMI remote switch is a great value. The slow HDCP handshake which cannot be attributed to only the switch is not enough to be a deal breaker.
